A facet joint is a joint to the side of your spine that joins the vertebra (bone of the spine) above to the one below. In the thoracic spine, facet joints are primarily responsible for allowing you to twist from side to side. This joint can become stiff and sore after awkward lifting, repetitive postural overload or from muscle imbalances around the shoulder.

• Pain on one side of your middle back (your thoracic spine) • Pain on twisting side to side • Pain on lifting • Difficulty sleeping on your side due to pain • Difficulty rolling in bed due to pain
