The pelvis connects to either side of the spine through the ‘sacroiliac’ joints. A number of muscles connect to both the front, back and side of the pelvis in order to stabilise these joints and hold each side of the pelvis in place. Tight, weak or overactive muscles can alter this stability and cause one or both sides of the pelvis to shift out of alignment.
