Clinical Pilates

Do you want to move better? Be more flexible or stronger? Improve your posture?

Most importantly, do you want to prevent future health problems?

Clinical Pilates has emerged as one of the most effective methods in treating acute and chronic pain problems. It has been proven to enhance flexibility, muscular endurance, postural alignment as well as one’s sense of wellbeing. Pilates has been used for over eighty years to improve the function of the body.

Clinical Pilates involves the use of specialised Pilates equipment such as the reformer, trapeze table, wunda chair and spine corrector. This equipment uses springs to resist or assist movements to gain strength, control and flexibility. It is designed in a particular way to guide you through the correct patterns of movement, when taught by a qualified instructor, to help you retrain the way your body moves.

The best thing about Clinical Pilates is that once your body takes on board these new movement patterns, that becomes your new way of moving – so even when you stop Pilates, the benefits keep on working! In this way, Clinical Pilates helps alleviate current injuries by treating the underlying cause, as well as prevent future problems by helping your body work in the best way possible.

Why Live Well Pilates?

Our Pilates instructors at Live Well Physio are physiotherapists who have undertaken extensive training in Clinical Pilates (9 months) and we offer the best quality teaching. We are also proud to be a training ground for Pilates instructors. You are able to claim Clinical Pilates with us via your private health rebate.

How do I book?

Your initial session is a one hour individual assessment. During this session, we take a thorough history from you, establish your goals and complete a full assessment of your flexibility, strength and core control. During this assessment we find the link between how your body is moving and your pain or injury – these are usually your barriers to recovery. We use specialised realtime ultrasound imaging to assess your pelvic floor and core abdominals and teach you how to engage these muscles correctly. We establish a plan to help you reach your health goals.

Most of our Clinical Pilates sessions are semi-private (max 3 clients per class) which ensures individual attention. Within the session, you undertake exercises specifically prescribed for you to help work towards your goals and correct problem movements or posture. In this way, you progress as soon as you are ready and improve faster. We also provide one-on-one sessions.
