PFJS is one of the most common complaints of knee pain. The patellofemoral joint relates to the patella (knee cap) gliding along the femur (upper thigh bone). PFJS most commonly occurs due to excessive pressure of the patellar against the femur or maltracking of the patella (knee cap gliding off centre) within the groove of the femur.
Signs and Symptoms
• Gradual onset of knee pain • Pain is often felt behind the knee cap • Pain after prolonged sitting • Pain when descending stairs • Pain with squatting, kneeling and running
