Foot pain can arise due to the biomechanics of the foot. When the alignment of the foot or the activation of the foot is not sufficient, increased stress and load is placed upon structures in the foot that are not designed to take this load in such manner. The most common form of biomechanical fault relates to the arch of the foot. That is the foot is either over pronated (flat foot), or over supinated (high arch). If ignored or left untreated, this biomechanical fault can cause bone spurs, tendinopathy or tears, stress fractures, and pain in the knee, hip and lower back.
Signs and Symptoms
• Pain in the foot • Increased callus formation • Pain when running or walking • Calf and Achilles pain • Ankle pain – past history of ankle sprains/strains • A feeling of weakness or instability in the foot • A feeling of stiffness in the foot
